Variety – Netflix has given a 20-episode pickup to the Matt Groening animated comedy “Disenchantment.”

“Broad City’s” Abbi Jacobson is on board for the voice cast along with Nat Faxon and Eric Andre.

The series from the creator of “The Simpsons” and “Futurama” is described as an adult fantasy about a crumbling medieval kingdom known as Dreamland. The central character is a hard-drinking princess Bean, her elf companion Elfo and her “personal demon” Luci. The first 10 episodes are targeted to premiere next year.

“‘Disenchantment’ will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you,” Groening said.

I know the Simpsons isn’t as good as it used to be but I’m still pretty excited for this. He hasn’t been involved in new Simpsons (besides the movie) in much more than name in a long time and when he was it was the best show ever, period. Then he focused on Futurama and created an amazing sci-fi show that was funny for general audiences and had a ton of smarter humor for nerds who are into math and science – enough that even now I see articles written about the alien language or background gags that only make sense if you have a degree in physics. I’m not a huge fan of fantasy stuff outside of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones but for those that are I’m expecting him to have a ton of inside humor for you guys too.

Netflix has been putting out amazing shows like F is for Family, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things, and Ozark and that’s mostly because their one of the last studios that gives the show creators a ton of creative freedom. If classic Simpsons and Futurama are anything to go by then him having creative freedom is going to create a new instant classic.

Here’s a video of some of the best Simpsons moments to hold you over until this comes next year:
